- MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR HOSTING REGIONAL WORKSHOPS ON SERVICE LEARNING
AACC is pleased to announce the availability of $2,000 mini-grants for community colleges interested in organizing and hosting regional workshops on service learning. AACC will select up to four colleges to organize and host workshops between October 1, 2010, and May 31, 2011. A $2,000 cash or in-kind match is required. Application guidelines are now available; the deadline for submission is Friday, August 6, 2010. The workshops are made possible through AACC's national project, Community Colleges Broadening Horizons through Service Learning, funded by the Learn and Serve America program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR HEALTH-CARE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT Until July 19, 2010, 5:00 p.m. ET, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications for planning and implementation grants as part of a new State Health Care Workforce Development Grant program. These application planning (maximum $150,000) and implementation (maximum $1,500,000) grants are to enable state partnerships (1) to complete comprehensive health-care workforce development planning and (2) to implement those plans or carry out activities to address current and projected workforce demands within the state. These grants are available to State Workforce Investment Boards that include, or modify membership to include, an array of partners including at least one higher education institution. FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR VETERANS SUCCESS PROGRAMS The U.S. Department of Education announced a funding opportunity under the Centers of Excellence for Veteran Student Success program. This competition is designed to help institutions of higher education create model programs that coordinate services to support veteran student success in postsecondary education, including coordination of admissions, registration, financial aid, veterans' benefits, academic advising, student health, personal or mental health counseling, career advising and disability services. Approximately 19 awards will be given, averaging $313,000 for 36 months. Deadline for application is July 30, 2010. Review panelists are also sought. For more information, see the Federal Register.

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR STRENGTHENING INSTITUTIONS PROGRAMS The U.S. Department of Education announced the availability of $17,830,000 to support projects under the Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP).SIP provides grants to eligible institutions of higher education to help them become self-sufficient and expand their capacity to serve low-income students, by providing funds to improve and strengthen the institution's academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability.
