03/06/2008 - The House-Senate Higher Education Act reauthorization conference is now proceeding at the staff level. The AACC has written to Congress stating its position and has also endorsed the statement of the American Council on Education.

01/31/2008 - AACC commends the Report of the College Board's National Commission on Community Colleges, "Winning the Skills Race and Strengthening America's Middle Class: An Action Agenda for Community Colleges."

11/27/2007 - The American Association of Community Colleges commits to promote education for sustainable development among AACC member institutions and affiliated councils.

10/1/2006 - Joint AACC and ACCT statement of committment to the importance of the globally educated learner and to building the global community.

08/10/2006 - The National Commission on the Future of Higher Education has now approved its report, subject to editorial modifications. AACC commends the work of the commission.

07/18/2006 - The National Commission on the Future of Higher Education has now released its second draft report. Community colleges are pleased that the draft’s tone is significantly less critical of higher education than the first draft.

06/19/2006 - The Higher Education Act of 1965 was designed not only to ensure access to a college education for all Americans, but also to use higher education and training as a means to achieve economic prosperity and other social benefits.

06/19/2006 - Pell Grants are essential to providing access to higher education for low-income students. The program now serves more than 5 million students annually, 70 percent of whom come from families with incomes of $20,000 a year or less.

06/19/2006 - Adult basic education should be explicitly linked to the workforce training mission of community colleges. Federal grants with a required match should be considered to motivate greater state and private investment in adult basic education.

11/07/2003 - The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) actively advocates an international role for community colleges in all dimensions of worldwide education and training.

09/15/2003 - This statement was developed by the AACC Athletics Advisory Committee to encourage the highest academic and ethical standards relating to community college intercollegiate athletics programs. It replaces a previous AACC position statement.

04/23/2003 - Statement of Cooperation for the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and League for Innovation in the Community College.

01/06/2003 - The statement reaffirms the vital role of library and learning resource center programs and librarians to formal education, information literacy and to lifelong learning as a core value.
