AACC's Leadership Award, an annual tradition since 1982, is presented to individuals whose accomplishments and professional contributions to the community college field have been outstanding. An Awards Committee, consisting of members of the AACC Board of Directors, reviews all nominations and makes the final selections. Past recipients of the award include distinguished colleagues from educational institutions, foundations, and associations.
2011 Leadership Award Nomination Now Open
The AACC Board of Directors invites member CEOs to nominate an individual whose accomplishments and professional contributions to the community college field have been outstanding. Deadline is Sept. 24, 2010. Award will be presented at Annual Convention, April 9-12, 2011, in New Orleans.

A leader whose example has inspired countless future leaders, Christine Johnson McPhail demonstrates a tireless commitment to the education of others and the advancement of community colleges.
As founder of and professor for the Community College Doctoral Leadership Program at Morgan State University, Dr. McPhail was singly responsible for graduating more than 30 doctoral students -- a record number of African American graduates. Her inspiration and effectiveness gave rise to a national agenda on graduation rates among peer and smaller institutions. Dr. McPhail successfully created and managed the State of Maryland's first component for the leadership training of mid-level professionals, hosting more than 16 institutions across the state in community college education and thus adding more than 150 professionals to the ranks of teaching and administration at community colleges.
